Aliens Among us?

Are extraterrestrials living among us? Have we been visited by alien races in the past? If life exists on other worlds, does that negate the Christian faith?

As a science fiction reader and writer, I have grappled with these questions for decades. How do I craft stories about other worlds, other life in view of my Christian faith? If an ET landed on the lawn of the White House tomorrow, what would that mean for my belief in God?

Well, you can find out. On Tuesday night, October 8th, at Brookwood Baptist Church my friend, Mark Riser and I will be giving a presentation: “Aliens Among us? Little Green Men and the Christian Faith”. Our monthly meetings were once affiliated with Reasons to Believe. However, in the past two months, RTB has moved away from supporting “local chapters”. We have reinvented ourselves as Brookwood Apologetics. What we will be doing does not change much. We still meet every month and we discuss evidence for the truthfulness of the Christian faith through science, history, and philosophy.

This upcoming special presentation will feature snacks and prizes. And we will be merging with other ministry groups for this one presentation. So beam me up, Scotty! I’m floating in space wearing a white space suit attached to a tether. I should be excited beyond words. I was in space hovering over the most beautiful sight in the solar system, my planet. But, instead, I am fearful I may not live through the next thirty minutes. My job is simple. These spindly creatures are assembling some kind of huge, transparent sphere that will sit atop the space station. Imagine a giant transparent spherical egg sitting in the golden Eagle’s Nest. That’s what the space station is called. My job is to hang here by tether a hundred yards above the apex of the sphere and block any stray pieces that may break lose during the assembly process. Not to worry that a huge chunk of that sphere might sever my tether and send me sailing off into space like that astronaut from the movie Gravity. So, I am praying these creatures know what they are doing.

What Have YOU Seen?

Jason Allen Brown, one of my FaceBook friends shared this experience regarding his own personal UFO sighting (with his permission, of course!)

One morning in spring, while eating breakfast, while no one was paying attention (I was a total loner at the time), I zoned out and looked outside the window of the cafeteria only to see something in the distance. It was in the sky, possibly 3 miles from the school, something white. Nearly circular, with no discernible features from that distance, just moving at a steady rate to the north. It disappeared when it got to a bush that was in my view. I waited a few seconds for it to get back in sight, which it never did. I moved from side to side to get another angle, but never saw it. When I mentioned it to a few classmates and a couple teachers, my own teacher tried to convince it could have been something else, but none of his theories made any sense (especially the one about it being a daisy in the sky). The weirdest part came that following summer, when, while playing with a voice modifying toy megaphone, it suddenly emitted an impossible noise. Impossible because (1) the noise wasn’t a programmed part of its system and (2) I didn’t press any button at that moment.
